I am currently taking 5mg of rosuvastatin. I want to take it as a low dose for a few days or two. Is it okay to take it for a few days or two, or can you do it more often?
Thanks in advance!
Curious about the use of rosuvastatin? I am planning to take this on a regular basis. Thanks in advance.
I am on the 4mg of rosuvastatin. I have been on Crestor (for the past 5 years) and it is the same dose as the 5mg of rosuvastatin. I do not take any medications.
I don't know if the 5mg or 4mg can be safely taken for a few days or several. If you feel like you may need to be careful, you should consult with your doctor or a pharmacist before taking this medication.
The only exception is when you are taking an oral medication. Your doctor will determine if you should be taking it while you are taking this medication. I have found that in my case, I usually take 5mg once a day (a tablet) but I am not sure if it is safe or not.
I am not sure if this is okay or not, but if it is, then I would suggest you take it.
Thank you.
I am still on rosuvastatin. The 4mg is fine. I have been on it for a few months. When I took the 5mg it just took a bit longer to start working.
I am currently taking my usual dose of 2.5mg per day.
I am on the 5mg. I have found that it is very important to take it with a glass of water.
I will keep asking for a prescription from my doctor so I can try to be safe with my medicine. If I get some side effects, then I will talk to my doctor.
Please, please feel free to ask if there is anything else you need to know. Good luck!
Dr. S.
Hi,
Thank you so much for the kind reply. I have been on Crestor for several years. I had been on it for several months and it made my life a lot easier. It was so much cheaper and much easier to take than the 5mg. It just took longer than I thought it would.
I am taking the 5mg, as I will be taking this for a few months or so. The 5mg is still not the right dose. It is not that bad. It is a bit more expensive and a bit more difficult to take.
I also have been taking it for 2 years now. I have tried several different brands and they are the same. I am not sure if this is okay or not, but I am still on rosuvastatin.
Thanks for all the advice and support. I will give it a try.
You're welcome.
L.
Your welcome. I will talk to my doctor or pharmacist.
I will be glad to help.
D.
Ill be sure to ask. Ill ask again.
If I get some side effects, I will definitely talk to my doctor.
Thank you so much for your advice. I appreciate it. You're very welcome. I will talk to my doctor if I need more information.

Crestor, containing rosuvastatin, is a widely prescribed statin drug. It is a dual inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, reducing levels and enhancing its uptake by hepatocytes [
]. In addition to its primary purpose as a statin, rosuvastatin is also effective in reducing cardiovascular risk factors, such as high blood pressure, smoking, and type 2 diabetes. Despite its high efficacy, rosuvastatin is associated with a significant risk of cardiovascular events, including heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death [
,
Rosuvastatin is currently being used as a first-line treatment for patients with LDL-C< 50 mg/dL, a risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular events, or as adjunct therapy to diet, exercise, or other therapeutic interventions [
While statins, like rosuvastatin, have shown a broad range of effects, rosuvastatin has been associated with a limited number of rare but significant side effects, including gastrointestinal disturbances, liver injury, and rhabdomyolysis [
Rosuvastatin is also associated with cardiovascular risk factors, such as hyperlipidemia and obesity. Additionally, it is well-tolerated, with minimal gastrointestinal adverse events [
The majority of patients, including those with familial hypercholesterolemia, have a favorable cardiovascular safety profile [
In addition to rosuvastatin, several other statins are also prescribed as adjunct therapy to diet and exercise in patients with coronary artery disease. These include fibrates, simvastatin, lovastatin, pravastatin, and rosuvastatin. These drugs act by reducing the levels of cholesterol in the blood, making them beneficial for reducing cardiovascular risks. They also have potential applications in the management of patients with high-risk cholesterol, including atheroma formation, atrial fibrillation, and certain types of cancer [
In addition to rosuvastatin, several other statins are also prescribed as adjunct therapy to diet and exercise in patients with cardiovascular disease. These include simvastatin, valsartan, losartan, and rivastigmine. These drugs are believed to exert their effects through inhibition of cholesterol synthesis, improving lipid profiles, and possibly reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and coronary artery disease. Rosuvastatin is also effective in reducing LDL-C levels, which is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events [
As with other statins, lovastatin has been studied extensively in the treatment of hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia. In some studies, lovastatin was reported to improve patients’ lipid profiles and decrease LDL-C levels [
However, lovastatin is not a lipid-lowering agent and has a low lipid profile compared with rosuvastatin, which is beneficial for patients with mixed dyslipidemia who are at higher risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attack or stroke [
It may be difficult to predict the impact of each statin on lipid profiles in the future, so further studies are needed to confirm its benefits and assess its safety in the long-term. Rosuvastatin is an inhibitor of the enzyme CYP3A4, which is responsible for metabolizing and converting statins. This enzyme converts statins to their active metabolites, which are then excreted in the urine and taken off the market [
Although statins, like rosuvastatin, have a broad range of effects on lipid metabolism, their safety in the long-term is still considered controversial [
Rosuvastatin is well-tolerated in patients with hepatic dysfunction and cardiovascular risk factors, including hypertension, high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) levels, smoking, and type 2 diabetes [
Rosuvastatin may also cause a decrease in the clearance of its active metabolites, leading to accumulation of its active metabolites in the urine and in the feces. In addition, this may lead to the accumulation of the metabolites in the liver, which may increase the risk of adverse effects. Rosuvastatin is associated with increased serum and tissue levels of cholesterol, which may contribute to the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease [
